For some, school's in on King Day

...Bemidji doesn't close its schools on the third 
Monday of January, even though it was declared a 
federal and state holiday almost 20 years ago. 

While most public schools in the Twin Cities area 
are closed today, the Minnesota School Boards
Association said many schools in outstate Minnesota 
are open. Among them are Duluth, International
Falls and Brainerd.

"That's a little concerning," said Brett Buckner, 
president of the Minneapolis branch of the NAACP.

Buckner said he has heard that teachers in some 
northern Minnesota districts are working the King 
holiday in exchange for another day off. 

"This is a celebration for all of America and we 
should take time off for that," he said....
