Minneapolis may lay off 220 teachers. There were two reasons given in the article. 50
were due to a year's worth of federal money was at an end. These teachers were being
paid without a having a consistent source of revenue. The second reason was the
expected loss of 3,000 students.

And what was the response from the Louise Sundin, president of the Minneapolis
Federation of Teachers. She blamed cuts and layoffs on legislators for not increasing
per-pupil school aid. Clearly Ms. Sundin does not teach critical thinking skills as
she only has one response for every situation.

The school board does not seem to want much responsibility for the teaching staff.
"The concept of contracting with the Teachers Federation to train and supply teachers
to the district got the greatest interest from board members. Under this option,
individual schools would deal with the union for their staffing needs, and teachers
that the school didn't want to retain could return to a union hiring hall for another
posting." I guess teachers are nothing more than interchangeable pegs. They must be
feeling proud after reading this column.

How can more money fix thinking like this?
