I don't think it is advertised anywhere, but here is an opportunity to participate in Park Board planning about the Upper River.
I am a member of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Above the Falls Phase I Design Development task force. We are an appointed body. Appointed by council members, the Mayor, AFCAC, and effected Park Commissioners. I was appointed by John Erwin. This is the official Park Board planning process. The Board has retained Close Landscape Architecture, Inc. as the lead consultant. The first meeting was Jan.13 This is the city and MPRB approved Above the Falls Plan and many of the task Force members are also on the Above the Falls Citizens Advisory committee. At the first meeting, it seemed like there were as many consultants as citizens. These meetings are open to the public and the public can comment. Such issues as trail development, Marina plans, land acquisition, the extension of West River Road, and park planning are part of this process. There is some funding and things will be built and important decisions made as part of this process. This is a seven month process. The meetings are held at 6:30pm at the MPRB Offices, 2117 West River Road on the following Tuesdays: Feb. 10 March 9 April 13 May 11 June 8 July 13 The Park Board staff are Mike Kimble and Eileen Kilpatrick. As an advocate of grass roots democracy and public participation in design and planning, I would really encourage people to attend these meetings. With the Award winning Above the Falls Master plan as our guide it is great vision to work on. The first session was introductions and general discussions of our individual ideas or concerns with a good showing by the River Rats, cultural heritage and a look at historic architectural styles, and some talk about whether a Marina would work in this area. I hope folks are interested in this planning process. Thanks, Scott Vreeland Seward- speaking as one citizen member of the Task Force REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
