Before the Election Gatherings 2004 Getting to the Bottom of the Ballot, or GET BOB, brings you the fictional character, BOB, and his on-going struggle to navigate local political issues and elections. Ever wished for a deeper understanding of local politics? Want to be more involved? Then join BOB and start your own political journey this pre-election season.
Pre-Election Gatherings: So Its Your First Caucus A non-partisan discussion on getting involved in party politics Tuesday, February 17th, 79 p.m. BOB is aware that politically motivated folks get together annually at something called a caucus. Last year, he even looked up the meeting location for his party-of-choice. But when Tuesday arrived, he stayed home. He just wasnt sure what to expect or how he could contribute. Join us on February 17th, get the low-down from a few party regulars, and make yourself caucus-ready! Putting a Price on Politics A non-partisan discussion on how money influences politics Tuesday, March 16th, 79 p.m. BOB has always seen big dollar signs above politicians heads but has never really known how money influences local and state politics. Hes never given money to a campaign, but he always checks the box on his taxes to contribute his share to public financing. Do individuals really gain access by giving? And just how do local corporations distribute their political resources? Join us as we examine the relationship between money and politics on March 16th. Investigation: Media in Politics A non-partisan discussion on how media influences politics Tuesday, April 20th, 79 p.m. BOB reads the political headlines and wonders, Whats the real story? When is a story just a story, and when does the writer make the story? How does the media work together to create broad images and themes for elections? What gets left out of a political story and how does that impact what we think we know about candidates? Join us on April 20th when we point the camera at the media and talk election coverage with a few well-versed media folks.
