The Twin Cities Free Market was created and is managed by Eureka
Recycling. The program is funded by the City of Saint Paul, Anoka
County, Washington County and Ramsey County. We are currently in the
process of finishing a contract with Hennepin County. Promotion of the
Free Market in the city of Minneapolis will begin once the contract with
Hennepin County is finalized. The Free Market allows cities and counties
to create reports for the materials exchanged by area and by material
type. This makes it easy to quantify reuse and reduce efforts. Last year
in the metro area, over 71,000 residents used the Free Market to make
6,800 exchanges totaling over 780 tons of reusable materials that were
diverted from the trash!
