From the article in the Southwest Journal:

>The Snow Boss had better produce: he or she will be paid $94,119 to $104,026, >according to Council direction. (Don't call the payments "slush funds.") The city >is eliminating a lower-paid engineering position to create the Snow Boss job. >Fabry said she did not have a timeline for filling the job.

Eliminated an ENGINEER'S job? Someone who actually does productive work? What the hell do we need another upper management bureaucrat for? At a salary of $94,119 plus benefits? Isn't there SOMEONE in the City DOT that is capable of this job without displacing an engineer?

Who came up with this asinine idea, anyway? How did it even <pass> the City Council - or is this really a joke?

>The Minneapolis City Council voted Feb. 27 to create the job of Director of Winter >Operations, at the request of Public Works Director Klara Fabry.

Hey Klara - are you bored?

>Fabry didn't have specific projects for the Snow Boss to implement, such as 24 hour >snow plowing. "I don't want to prejudge the outcome of that," Fabry said.

Let me try to understand this idiocy: a public official comes back from a...a...a...Snow Conference...A SNOW CONFERENCE...and requests the City Council to create a job for which no job description is written, no duties are specified, and to whom no authority is given...yet - except that he or she will be paid from $94,119 to $104,026 a year.

Hey Klara - how much did I pay for you to go to a Snow Conference?

>The Snow Boss could prepare better strategies for responding to back-to-back >snowfalls or investigate alternative parking systems, she said.

Repeal this crap, please.
