If you were to realize what an unholy hell it often is to find people willing to convene their precinct caucus you'd know how welcome Commissioner Fine's participation likely was to his district leadership. As for the fact he is an elected official, the party rules state that a salaried elected official of a City of the First Class cannot serve as a DFL party officeholder. Since convenors and caucus chairs are not ongoing party offices and, since Park Commissioners are not salaried (at least last time I checked), there is no restriction on Fine serving as a convenor, caucus chair or any other party office. Though I wouldn't recommend it. Loki Anderson Marshall Terrace

I like having elected officials present & participating and answerable to the public. Even if it means they sometimes have to "take some heat". And elected officials certainly meet the requirements of caucus conveners: active party member, and resident of the precinct (even that's not required for a convener). All the convener does is start the meeting. The Precinct Caucus Chair is then elected by the attendees. And they certainly can elect Bob Fine as Chair if they want (whether Mr. Johnson likes him or not). Tim Bonham, Ward 12, Standish-Ericsson REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
