Posted on Sun, Mar. 28, 2004 MINNEAPOLIS: Council's 3 gays break ground
BY GITA SITARAMIAH Pioneer Press The big city with the most openly gay City Council members isn't Miami or Atlanta or even San Francisco. It's Minneapolis. The 13-member City Council has three members who are openly gay. San Francisco, with a sizable and high-profile gay and lesbian population, has two. The New York City Council also has three openly gay members, but their influence is proportionately smaller because there are 51 members. Like their peers on the City Council, Scott Benson, Robert Lilligren and Gary Schiff each have distinct agendas reflecting the wards they represent. They're not known as single-issue candidates, don't vote as bloc and have distinctly different backgrounds. Still, their leadership on gay rights issues hasn't gone unnoticed. http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/8287429.htm Posted by Shawn Lewis, Field Neighborhood -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm REMINDERS: 1.
