Interesting is not the word I would use for it. Disgusting is a lot closer.

People wonder why voters are apathetic, why voters think their votes don't matter, and why many voters view politicians as crooks. This would be an example of why. In a short-sighted, self-serving parochial vote, the best and obvious choice was defeated.
