I know this is really crazy, but why shouldn't Minneapolis opt out of the
Metro transit system? Believe me, that statement goes counter to everything I
believe in as far as governing goes, but these are strange times indeed. It is
clear that the Republicans and anti-transit Carol Molneau are going to starve
the transit system to a point where it cannot function. So if suburbs can opt
out and start their own systems, why can't Minneapolis? Does the City send
money to the MTC and could that money be used to support a Minneapolis Bus
Company? Then I would say that such a bus system should be free to all
Minneapolis residents to really get people out of their cars. Somehow there should be
a
way then to transfer to other city systems. It is not nice and pretty, and
obviously, the MTC was started to avoid just such problems, but we may have no
other choice.
