Council Member Zimmerman DOES NOT deserve this kind of bile! While one not agree with him on his support of PRT, linking him with Rep. Mark Olson and Sen. Michelle Bachmann (both hard shell conservatives) is grossly unfair.
I am not a Green but I can say that the differences between Republican right wingers like Rep. Olson and Sen. Bachmann and Council Member Zimmerman are much greater than the distance between Minneapolis and Tokyo! To claim that because they happen to agree on this one issue that Council Member Zimmerman is "in bed" with the likes of Rep. Olson and Sen.Bachmann is idiotic. It is not uncommon at all for elected officials and people in public life who are generally opposites in their politics and ideas about public policy to find themselves on the same side of the fence from time to time. Both Washington and St. Paul are rife with examples of legislators who despite their deep divides on most issues find themselves working together to solve a common problem. In fact, good public servants ought to have the nerve to step forward together when they see an opportunity to make the lives of people better -even though they may usually be on opposite sides of the line. One could actually applaud Rep. Olson and Sen. Bachmann for departing from the usual Republican orthodoxy of "build more roads, the hell with public transit". Many who count themselves firmly in the liberal camp are interested in new transit technologies like PRT. Busses are not necessarily the only solution for urban transportation. Criticize PRT all you want, but smearing Council Member Zimmerman because a couple of Republican legislators also like PRT is despicable. Mr.Ken Avidor deserves a round of loud boos for this one! Ken Avidor has added a simplified list of links to his information packed "PRT is a Joke" website. It's a nice corrective to the PRT puffery emanating from the Minneapolis city hall. It can be found at http://www.roadkillbill.com/PRTlinks.html In a more familiar and reprehensible vein, Avidor tells the tale of republigreen love in the PRT luv pod (complete with pictures) at http://www.roadkillbill.com/PRT-LUVPOD%20-2.html Enjoy.
