Actually I think it's time to stop with the vague alliterations and "crab-in-a-barrel" tactics meant to rile people because the person you wanted wasn't chosen and start acting with integrity and being truthful.
What is your evidence of elitism Booker? You're accusing Jayne Baccus Khalifa, Rybak's appointment for Civil Rights Director of being an elitist; why? What do you cite as your support? What are these elitist organizations? What is your evidence that she's a "pot tender". In fact what evidence or support do you have for anything that you wrote? More importantly, is that all that you've got? Not that she's not qualified, not that she can't do the job, or that there's some issue with her experience, or but that you don't like the organizations she's a part of? Let's take a look at those organizations shall we? Minnesota Historical Society, North Star Education Finance Corporation, Theatre Communication Group, African Grove Institute for the Arts and The Links, Inc. Hmmm, so is your issue that these organizations work towards education funding, history preservation, the Arts or networking and development for women of color. I would think having a representative in or being a part of any of these organizations would be beneficial to both a person of color and the community at large, so I'm curious as to which of these you're calling elite and why, and if it's something else, where are you getting it from? And let's leave the "sources close to the administration" bit out, if there's a real issue here, the community has a right to know, but they also have a right to be sure it's not something you or someone else invented because you don't like where someone lives. Jayne Khalifa has been the Managing Director for the Penumbra Theatre Co for the past five years, an African American theatre company. What's elitist about that? What's the problem with that? Before that she was the Operations Director for the Secretary of State's office, prior to that Chief of Staff for the Department of Trade and Economic Development, before that Director of the Governor's Office of Science and Technology, and even worked her way up to being Commissioner of MN Department of Human Rights after being Deputy Director of the Minneapolis Civil Rights Department; the experience goes on and on. She's a highly qualified woman of color and single mother who's done a lot for the community, the Twin Cities and the State at all levels of government. She is a successful African American woman who has worked hard to do good things and help the communities of color of MN that you have taken to name calling because she's not the person that you wanted. This is a serious issue, Booker, and Minneapolis deserves honest, open dialogue and evidence of areas of concern not hearsay. If you've got real issues bring it forward so that everyone can know it. Bring it out so that the truth can be seen by everyone, not rumors and innuendos. Where was the concern when the finalists were announced? Where was the concern when the field was narrowed to two? But now that there's an appointment that you don't like, it's time to fight Rybak's appointment of "people who will execute his Limousine Liberal agenda"...like Chief McManus, huh? If you've got something of substance, bring it out, I'll join with you and even help you organize protests. But I was on the advisory panel and Jayne was just about everyone's first or second choice, so if the best you've got is some vague accusation of elitism with no evidence or that she doesn't live in Minneapolis then it's time to find another windmill to tilt at. Jonathan Palmer Victory In a message dated 4/27/2004 9:13:59 PM Central Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Rybak has picked an elitist to head the Minneapolis Civil Rights department. The person he picked doesnât even live in the city and is a member of several elitist organizations. The community will not put up with Rybak picking another POT TENDER to head the civil rights department. Rybak has picked a person that he can control and that is evident by the fact that he was able to persuade this person not to attend any community meetings. This person also resigned from their job on April 17 indicating that they already had been informed that they would be appointed to the position prior to the workshops that took place the past weekend. COMMUNITY MEMBERS WILL BE MEETING THIS THURSDAY AT 6:00PM AT THE MINNEAPOLIS URBAN LEAGUE TO DISCUSS HOW THE COMMUNITY CAN STOP THIS APPOINTMENT FROM HAPPENING. If you want to help in this process please attend this meeting. We cannot allow RT to continue to appoint people who will execute his Limousine Liberal agenda and protect the interest of the $500,000 home club. REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
