Jonathan isn't here (well, maybe he's back from Atlanta now), and while he's perfectly capable of speaking for himself, I feel an obligation to speak up in his behalf.
Attention to all: I am not black. I met Jonathan Palmer about a year ago, during one of Don Samuels' vigils at the Jordan Community Garden. The first time I met him he impressed me as a person who was interested in getting things done, not chasing headlines or promoting himself or his interests. Since that time that impression has been reinforced. During a time in Jordan when many are making wild, unsubstantiated charges against various people and organizations and whining about how "the man" is out to get anyone who isn't a WASP, Jonathan has been working effectively within the system to make this neighborhood a better place. The resources are there for anyone who wants to better themselves or the lives of their families--black, white, Native or Asian. If a person wants to know what programs are best for their situation, Jonathan is the person to ask. He knows the people to talk to and how to navigate the system. He has, in my opinion, a low tolerance for scammers and bull**** artists. That suits me just fine. He's working his tail off for the people of Jordan. I trust him and value his insights and opinions on the issues that affect us. There are far too many people in this city whose fortunes depend on trouble--and if the trouble isn't there, they'll make some to be sure the money keeps rolling in. Jonathan isn't one of those people, and such people rightly fear and feel threatened by someone who is willing to call them on their crap. I'll take one Jonathan Palmer--a man who knows how to get results--over a hundred "activists" any day. M. G. Stinnett Jordan REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
