To be accurate, David, the DFL delegates did not endorse 5 candidates:
- 2 black women
- 2 white men
- 1 black (somoli) man

But I'm not sure why anyone considers this important, other than lazy reporters looking for an easy story. The reasons that each of these candidates failed to gain endorsement were so individually different that such a listing is meaningless. I overheard lots of discussions between delegates about candidates, and I don't recall ANY where race or gender was an issue -- they were arguing about the past performance or the qualifications of the candidates.

Tim Bonham, Ward 12, Standish-Ericsson

P.S. Info on the Convention Results, including complete vote counts, is available online at the City DFL website: www.mpls.dfl.org

Note to those keeping such scores: DFLers endorsed an Asian-American (Lydia
Lee) and Native American (Peggy Flanagan), while rejecting a black woman
(Henry-Blythe) and a white guy (Schapiro).
