RECENT ACTIVITIES + The good work of folks along West Broadway are getting noticed across the city. Recent Minneapolis StarTribune coverage highlights these neighbors: --The Casserly sisters and their Lundstrum Center for the Performing Arts. --Teen moms who write poetry and fiction at The Broadway School in a program in partnership with The Loft Literary Center. --Bill Reiling of Sunrise Community Bank who has a history of financing renovation in opportunity sectors of town, and who told Mayor R.T. Rybak that he is is interested in West Broadway. --Shiloh Temple International Ministries minister and bishop Richard Howell�s life experience with the landmark Supreme Court�s Brown vs. Board of Education ruling that against school segregation in 1954. More stories to come of West Broadway talent and hard work... + WBAC, with NRRC and Jordan Neighborhood, received commercial corridor initiative funds to be used for technical assistance for housing and mixed use development on the Avenue. The grant includes help with architectural services, facilitation and planning, access to developers. Goals are to create a plan for the south side of Broadway at Penn Ave., the north side of the curve and abandoned gas stations. The competitive grant was awarded by the Center for Neighborhoods. + Kari was at the Lundstrum C enter fund raiser, which raised $25-30,000. Broadway performers and children put on a �great show.� + Drawings for the renovation of historic structures at 1101 W. B�Way showed prospective sites for restaurant and small complementary shops. Kari has introduced a dry cleaning business to the developer. Watch for details. + Kari and leaders of other neighborhood organizations joined public officials on the podium at the dedication festivities of the Plymouth Youth Center�s new building. The event also commemorated PYC�s 50 years of service to the community. + The IRS (the Internal Revenue Service!) has notified WBAC that it has received our 501(c)3 application (as a recognized nonprofit organization) to which it will respond within 120 days.
