I believe the outcome of this development project will be a
watershed moment in community and local politics. For example,
If the primay developer Ryan Companies US, Inc fails to include high numbers of
minority contractors and fails to hire minorities in this project
not only will they be blamed BUT, the Minneapolis Civil Rights
Department as well as elected officials like (the Mayor Office
and Council Members)will face severe criticism.-Shawn

Follow-up to April 13 meeting; last before City Council votes
on final development agreement

2727 Tenth Avenue S., Minneapolis

The partnership of community organizations and developers
working to redevelop the former Sears site (now known as
Midtown Exchange) has scheduled the next community meeting
on Midtown Exchange for Wednesday, May 26.

This meeting, co-hosted by the Minneapolis Community Planning
and Economic Development department, the Neighborhood Revitalization
Program, Ryan Companies US, Inc., Midtown Community Works,
the Green Institute and the Chicago-Lake Project Review Committee,
is a continuation of the community participation process
begun more than seven years ago.

At the last community meeting, held on April 13, more
than 150 people gathered with Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak,
Minneapolis City Council members Lilligren, Schiff and Zimmermann,
and members of the development team to learn more about the
Midtown Exchange. Discussions that evening covered everything
from project design to business tenants, jobs, transit,
and the projects connections to surrounding neighborhoods.

At the May 26 meeting, attendees will learn the latest updates
on project features such as the City approvals process, any
changes to the project design, historic preservation, and transit.
