I was interested in today's front-page USA Today story regarding affordable
housing. "Americans are so worried about skyrocketing house prices that most
say they would support more affordable housing in their neighborhoods--and even
next door, according to a survey to be released today." Here is the link:
http://www.usatoday.com/usatonline/20040524/6226708s.htm

The attitude change is partially attributed to the worry in many cities that
young professionals (including fire and police) cannot afford to live in the
city where they work. I know folks at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and they say
many of the young professionals who work there live in Chaska, Shakopee,
Waconia, etc. I expect this may hold true for the Allina employees at the
redeveloped Sears site.

So now that affordable housing is no longer an issue for the poor and
unemployed, will Minneapolis move faster to change zoning and housing regulations to
encourage the construction of more affordable housing?
