A reason that some Greens did not vote for me at the endorsing meeting on Sunday was that I publicly criticized positions taken by Kari Tauring and publicly stated that I did not support Kari's candidacy prior to the endorsing meeting (in two posts to the mpls and 5th district GP listserv). Liz McClemore spoke against my nomination due to those Emails and private Emails concerning Kari's candidacy that were allegedly beyond the pale. Because the propriety of my remarks in private Emails have been called into question, I am willing to make ALL private Email exchanges with Liz McClemore concerning Kari's candidacy accessible to the public, and will do so if Ms. McClemore gives her consent.
I can't be complacent when it comes to the school board making decisions that harm so many of our children - and parents. I know what it feels like to trust the schools to properly educate my child and to have that trust violated. I believe the Minneapolis Public Schools can close most of the racial learning gap in a matter of a few years, if the board and administration make a serious effort to do so with support from a large majority of the school community. (And please note that I DO NOT support No Child Left Behind, which pays lip service to closing the gap, but does not even seriously consider what is causing the learning gap to widen. I am for fixing the school system, not privatizing it.) I don't care if what I propose is not likely to get majority support, that it is not likely to happen. I don't care about the odds. I care about what is right. And too many of the critical decisions that have been made by the school board are not right. -Doug Mann, King Field Minneapolis school board candidate - REMINDERS: 1.
