Sorry if this is a duplication for some folks, but I sent it to Dave with a CC: to the mplsforum and never saw it show up so am sending it again.
WHEN: Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 5:30 PM WHERE: MTN Channel 17 WHAT: CITIZENSHIP CHRONICLES This week's episodes contains segments on the Welfare Rights Committee press conference on the release of their Public Service Announcement about Pawlenty's cuts to welfare and loopholes for business, the anniversary vigil at the Capital held by the Repeal Conceal and Carry folks and Don Samuels press conference at The Bean Scene announcing the formation of the new Peace Foundation. A quick note on the last one. You will see WCCO TV channel 4 news there--the only one that was--doing an interview across the parking lot with Don Samuels. I also noted them speaking to other members of the speakers panel later on. Since I was tied up the rest of the day with meetings I set my Time Warner Digital Box (a little plug for the folks whose contract makes MTN possible) to record the 5, 6 and 10 PM newscasts of channel 4. Imagine my dismay the next day when I played back the 10 PM and there was nothing. Then the 6 PM and again nothing. Skimming through 5 PM however, Don Samuels face suddenly popped up so I backed up to the start of the report. And what did Channel 4 have to say about the Peace Foundation that they had a reporter and videographer cover for an hour? Absolutely NOTHING!!! They had reactions from Don Samuels, Mayor Rybak and Chief McManus to the probable return of Rich Stanek to the Minneapolis Police Department. Isn't it wonderfual that an event dedicated to an ACTUAL opening of a new avenue to promote unity and peace among our diverse populations and neighborhoods gets pre-empted by a news piece about a highly devisive POTENTIAL action the police department may be contractually obligated to take. I wonder if the irony ever sunk in at good ole 'CCO. Steven M Nelson Willard Hay REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
