The quote attributed to me in the PP's Way out left article seems to imply that I did not expect to get the Green Party endorsement simply because I am a Nader supporter. That's why I sent an Email to the mpls issues list citing other likely reasons people in the Green Party didn't vote for me.
Annie Young is among the Green Party leaders who have been supportive of school board members and DFL endorsed candidates and opposed to the Green Party endorsing me. In 2002 Annie Young cited my lack of support to "our black superintendent" Carol Johnson as a reason to not endorse me. There is also the matter of 2 Emails that I sent to the mpls issues and local Green Party listservs prior to the GP's most recent endorsing meeting: One asking Kari Tauring to clarify her position on some issues, and another Email stating that I was disinclined to support Ms. Tauring due to statements in her screening report, including stances on policy issues and the admission that she had initially sought support from current school board members, and backed away from seeking the DFL endorsement when support from current school board members was not forthcoming. THE NADER FACTOR Nader has few supporters who attended the 5th District Green Party endorsing meeting last Sunday, and most of the Green Party members on my list of supporters in 2002 (those who donated money, put up lawn signs, and helped with lit drops) just happen to be Nader supporters and attended one or both of the meetings in 2002. I received a bare majority of the votes (50% + 1) at both of those endorsing meeting (with one abstention at the first meeting). A 2/3 supermajority was, and is, needed to get the GP endorsement. I am not aware of any "Nader-haters" among those who regularly attend 5th District Green Party meetings, however it is possible that pressure from Nader-haters on the Left could make a difference when it comes to voting to endorse a candidate for public office who openly supports Nader. ANNIE YOUNG'S DEBATING TACTICS Now Annie Young says that "...it is a manipulation of words to say something different from what really happened." That may be true, however, given the context of that statement it seems to imply that I said something about the Green Party endorsement meetings in 2002 that is different from what really happened. Did I not receive a bare majority of the votes at 2 Green endorsing meeting in 2002? As I understand it, the statement about getting "a bare majority" of the vote at a couple of Green Party meetings was considered misleading because some people might not know "the rest of the story," i.e., that a 2/3 supermajority is needed for the endorsement for Green Party endorsement, and that my "bare majority" was less than that. It is one thing to point out that a statement is misleading for this or that reason. However, that is not the same as accusing one of **deliberately** making misleading statements. Why engage in character assassination rather than debate the issues? -Doug Mann, King Field Minneapolis School Board Candidate In a message dated 5/28/2004 11:59:51 PM Central Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: << And if you want to split hairs Doug - I believe I started it by also questioning the wording and what I felt was a manipulation of the words to say something different than what really happened. darrell just happened to pick up on the wording at the same time - but timing doesn't matter Doug. What matters is your use of words to conjecture what it is you want people to believe. So Doug be mad at all of us for calling it like it is, And believe me darrell does not get upset or out of line hardly ever - if never - (one of those cool, calm, collected, quiet sorts) so just think about how far you ( Doug) must have pushed him to get him to even make a comment like that.
