Dave Stack's comment:
"It seems like more people every year are appreciating the river in Mpls as a wonderful natural amenity."
Shawn's comment:
That was the statement that got me since I do still believe that the river has become more of a selling tool for rele estate than an "appreciated natural amenity" and that is what I had orginally responded to.
Annie's comment:
It is both. But believe me it is the "appreciated natural amenity" of the River that is the lure. The Park Board made a commitment about 15-20 years back to get the crowds off the lakes and get people back to the River. And as we all know downtown and the river were very ignored for about 25 years there. And so yes the boom is happening.
I sat at the bridge talking with folks about the Crown Hydro project. My first question is always, Do you live in Minneapolis? My guess is that about 85% said "No".
The point - the River is a regional and national park also and has more attention than anyone would imagine. We wanted the tourists and visitors to Minneapolis to come to the River.
But just like the shores along Lake Michigan in Chicago and places all over the world; people want to live and be on waterfronts, too. It's just a fact.
So for now enjoy it while you can - it is ever changing, just like that water that comes over the falls.
