A little late tonight to find out some kind of answer but this has been forwarded to staff and Interim Supt. Gurban and I expect I will have something to report Monday or Tuesday.

I'm wondering if the Park Board has to wait for the City to do the street repair, since that is who usually does it. The paths however should probably be done sooner by the Park Board. Maybe Commissioner Young can enlighten us on this.

As others have pointed out, notably Lisa McDonald, this is emblematic of
our current Park Board. Most any park visitor or city tax payer would
likely prioritize maintenance of existing park facilities quite a bit
higher than sinking millions of dollars into "legacy" projects like the
new headquarters building, the sports complex at Fort Snelling, and
ridiculous pipe dreams like a marina in front of the new HQ building.
The controlling majority of the current and recent past Park Board
commissioners and their hirelings have just about bankrupted the park
system with their spending on these projects. Meanwhile, beaches are
closed, paths remain unrepaired, grass is not mowed, porta-potties are
removed, fountains and pools are drained, and Minneapolis' premiere
amenity slides into disrepair.

Want to change this?

Attend the Park Board meetings. Become educated about their budget and
their politics. Keep the pressure on. And vote the bums out next year.
