Minneapolis holds public hearing on I-35W reconstruction on June 14

The Minneapolis City Council's Transportation and Public Works Committee is holding a 
public
hearing on June 14 to give the public an opportunity to provide comments on the 
Minnesota
Department of Transportation's I-35W reconstruction proposal. The proposal from MnDOT 
calls for
the reconstruction of I-35W from 66th Street in Richfield to 42nd Street in 
Minneapolis, including
a stretch of Highway 62 (the "Crosstown) from Portland to Penn Avenues in South 
Minneapolis.

What: Public Hearing by the Minneapolis City Council's Transportation and Public Works 
Committee
When: 7 p.m., Monday, June 14, 2004
Where: Washburn High School Auditorium, 201 W 49th St., Minneapolis

During the public hearing, people will have an opportunity to provide their comments 
and feedback
to the Committee following a presentation by MnDOT. Comment sheets will be available 
and may be
handed in or mailed later to the address provided on the comment sheets. The Committee 
will keep
the Public Hearing record open through July 14, 2004 to accept additional comments.

The MnDot proposal includes adding traffic lanes on I-35W, extending the High 
Occupancy Vehicle
lane to 42nd Street, and a provision for a Bus Rapid Transit Station at 46th Street.

Bus service to Washburn High School is by Metro Transit Route #18 on Nicollet Avenue. 
The Washburn
Auditorium is accessible at the 50th Street entrance. Information is available in 
alternative
formats by calling Peggy Menshek, Committee Coordinator at (612) 673-2287. Sign 
language
interpreters are available upon request by calling (612) 673-2626 by June 8. Spanish 
and Somali
interpreters will be at the meeting to provide translation services.
