The cat's long been out of the bag as far as large buildings downtown. There should be some regulation of building height and mass so that enough sunlight gets to the street and the streets don't become cavernous wind-tunnels. But I don't understand the complaints about too many lofts. I think they may be a proxy for complaining about the presumed yuppie (I guess its "bobos" now) inhabitants.
"Green space" in an urban setting doesn't have to be large multi-acre parks http://www.parks.ci.portland.or.us/Parks/MillEnds.htm . Little pocket parks can provide a moment's rest and reflection.
