One reason that the lrt won't run 24x7 is that they need time to clean
the trains and do maintenance. They didn't buy many spares. As you know,
I'm not an apologist for them. If they did run 24x7 instead of 21x7 or 20x7,
how much would the operating expenses go up and the farebox recovery go down?

How many late-night downtown workers live near the train or would move to
be near it if it did run 24x7? Would it work without running a lot of
bus routes the same hours? How many bus routes run more hours than the
lrt?

A comment on the note about Portland turning an old highway into a park:
as I recall, that highway was closed after they either built or expanded
a nearby freeway. Portland has worse congestion than we do. The last four
times that Portland area voters were asked to raise the payroll tax to
pay for more lrt, they were turned down.

The Strib stated its editors' reason for wanting lrt. "Real cities
have trains." Read into that important cities have trains. Municipal
envy.
