CREATING A WALKER LIBRARY TASK FORCE QUESTIONED... TIME ELEMENT On Monday July 1..time was set at 10:55 for Thursday..usually at 10:00am on city cable. Changed to 8:55am then to 9:55. Why? There is no time to make a statement and does not seem to have full disclosure. Seems strange that it would be rushed before the fourth of July weekend. QUESTIONING OF NIZIOLEK'S TASK FORCE STATEMENT 1. Micromanaging another independent elected board policy making process? 2. Evaluate? Library has already conducted an independent study of the efficacy of the Walker. Why is another study required? 3. Housing/commercial uses? Studies show nonworkable and having an impingement effect on efficacy of library services. 4.Task force composition? Tie vote... no citizens advisory nor neighborhood representation? Should have NO designees and two ELECTED library trustees. 5. Staffing? How many FTEs and dollar support? Who is going to pay for it? Does CPED and the Library board have the money and staff? Then open up the libraries on Saturday with that staff and money! 6. Is this task force self-policing? 7. Filling all project gaps? What is it? 8. A Request for Proposal? You have already decided! 9. Done deal? Evaluation of proposal... to who's criteria? 10. Recommendation? Is any action required...who really wants this? 11. Task force shall complete it's work? No time for public comment in one month. 12. Economically feasible? Are there not other criteria involved? Is this not already a full service library as it now stands? Do we move the libraries every 30 years on the taxpayer's dime due to someone's whim? This whole process has to be open and accessible to residents. Time and location of meetings need to be made public. The City Council should not assume they know what the public wants. C. Lee Luger Dorie Rae Gallagher REMINDERS: 1.
