>The reduction of 608 teachers for next fall reflects an anticipated enrollment decline of > 4,600 students from Fall 2003 to Fall 2004.
>4600 divided by 608 = 7.57 If there is going to be 4600 less students, at 25 students per teacher, 184 less teachers would be needed. Maybe Doug Mann has a point. Maybe the distict is laying off more teachers than necessary. Dan McGuire Ericsson> _______________________________________ Good Point, but the discrepancy may be in the fact that in most schools today, the teachers don't have the same 25 kids all day. Those kids will go through 3 or 4 teachers. Teachers don't teach every class hour of the day either. So the number, 184, may have to be multiplied by a factor. Also, I thought it was said that there was an enrollment decline in the last few years. So, some of the layoffs may be coming from declining enrollment catching up to where the district just can't afford the staffing levels of the past. Just thoughts on how the district arrived at the numbers. Tom Thompson Como Park REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
