I do not think people who have lived on 29th Avenue for over 20 years
find it "luxurious" to park in front of their houses. The demographics
of my block 29th Avenue is one which many people have work
vehicles-separate from their personal vehicles. There are some painters
who have vans, lawn service, plumbers-all of which have extra "work"
vehicles which do not fit in their alley spaces. Some of them even have
RV's-and that's their choice of vacation. I think Metro Transist has
done an awful job at informing people where to park. And to assume
people are going to ride one, two or even three buses was a twisted
dream and excuse. I think they came into this project with pure utter
carelessness for the residents and wanted to get their train running. I
was one of the unfortunates that even filed a claim for odd things that
happened in my house. Gas leaks, floors cracking, my whole stairway
pulling away from the inside wall. As my house shook during the entire
construction, mostly caused by their Vibration compactor; I thought this
is crazy. People by the airport get better treatment than this. My
claim was completely and ridiculously denied. With it was charts from a
1968 textbook on vibration. Some other neighbors a block away got a
denied claim for some of the same damages-only they were told not to
"bounce around too much"-maybe that was causing their ceiling and wall
cracks. So once again we the residents are supposed to feel its our
civic duty to "pay" to park in our luxurious streets so that the LRT can
be successful. Once again we the residents are to submit to anything
and everything as long as the train's rider ship can grow. What's next
for me-is a true dichotomy a possible "park and ride" next to my house
in the empty vacant lot on 29th Avenue that has been thru so many hands
I lost count..(but last count..Metro Transit-big surprise). Can I endure
more shaking, more vibration like living in a martini shaker, fragile
lathes breaking and shaking in my old house??? All for the benefit of
LRT and its rider ship?? I sound like an old cantankerous whiner; but I
am not I am just really tired of the intrusiveness of the whole project.
And as I sit on 394, or 169, or 94....I curse the project
developers....what were they thinking anyway???

Standish (IMO-where is the neighborhood association anyway??)
