Jonathan Palmer Working in Jordan Jordan Area Community Council Outreach Coordinator Job Description Purpose: To perform outreach to the Jordan neighborhood in support of volunteer recruitment and retention, organizational efforts, community outreach and initiative coordination on behalf of the Jordan Area Community Council. Position Summary: Under the direction of the Executive Director of JACC, develops strategies for involving the Jordan residents, organizations, and businesses in community initiatives. Works with JACC and other organizational staff to develop contacts and promote outreach to the Jordan community. Acts as a liaison to community residents and coordinate outreach programs such as the neighborhood patrol. Salary range is $30-35K Duties and Responsibilities: The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the following tasks and duties: With the board and executive director, the organizer would: Â Identify issues sufficiently important to attract the broadest range of residents â ensuring a broad cross-section of homeowners, renters, businesses, ethnic groups, and geographic areas. Â Develop, prioritize and select specific organizing campaigns to these groups or to particularly under-represented subsets of these groups, such as renters. Â Develop an implementation plan and time schedule. Â Identify necessary resources and volunteers. Â Set goals and benchmarks of success. Under its own initiative, the organizer would: Â Implement the plans and supervise any volunteers. This may include: o Door knocking and getting to know residents o Disseminating information about JACC and the community o Coordinating programs such as the community patrol o Explaining how to do things, who to contact with fact sheets or in person to people who request assistance o Conducting short surveys to gather resident ideas and input about issues facing the community and strategies to address them. o Encouraging involvement in meetings, events and projects. o Evaluating new contacts and proposing them to the ED and Board for leadership development o Coordinating outreach events o Linking residents to other community services and groups, as interest and need suggest o Working with JACC area partners as organizing efforts require o Working with JACCâs on-going committees in housing and the environment and the monthly JACC Forum to identify participation opportunities for new volunteers. Qualifications: Â Bachelorâs Degree or equivalent experience in community organizing or outreach in Jordan neighborhood or other urban setting. (3-5 years preferred) Â Good interpersonal and speaking skills. Â Knowledge of key Minneapolis City issues. Â Knowledge of key Jordan neighborhood issues. Â Able to navigate the Internet and use e-mail. Â Familiarity with issues facing impacted neighborhoods especially those in North Minneapolis.
