Also in Boston, at a breakfast meeting of delegates, there were many boos when Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak announced that Kelly had told a reporter that he was neutral in this year's presidential race.
"I have a problem with that," said Rybak. "Bobby Kennedy used to quote this great line from Dante's Inferno: The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in times of crisis preserved their neutrality."
If Kelly won't work for the Kerry ticket, Rybak promised to work with Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn., to carry the Twin Cities for the new Democratic ticket.
Kelly, a longtime state legislator, was known as a strong supporter of labor unions and as somewhat liberal on economic issues. He was one of the Legislature's strongest advocates of raising the minimum wage.
But he was somewhat more conservative on social issues such as abortion and was considered a pro-business pragmatist who worked with Republican Coleman on economic development projects.

EY: Rybak would do well to recall that part of what hurt SSB's reelection campaign was the perception that she was more focused on a future career possibility betting on a Gore win (which didn't pan out) than being mayor of the city.

Saying creationism deserves equal time with the theory of evolution in the classroom is like saying I deserve equal time with Pavarotti at the Sydney Opera House.
