Also in Boston, at a breakfast meeting of delegates, there were many boos when Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak announced that Kelly had told a reporter that he was neutral in this year's presidential race.

It's a curiously written (or maybe just poorly written) article. Who were the boos directed at? Rybak? Or Kelly? It's not obvious to me.

But he was somewhat more conservative on social issues such as abortion and was considered a pro-business pragmatist who worked with Republican Coleman on economic development projects.

EY: Rybak would do well to recall that part of what hurt SSB's reelection campaign was the perception that she was more focused on a future career possibility betting on a Gore win (which didn't pan out) than being mayor of the city.

If Kelly comes out in support of Bush or changes his party affiliation to Republican, then we know which of the two mayors is the more focused on future career possibilities, than doing his current job.
