This is significant because it is an obvious tactic to avoid questions into commissioner Bob Fine's misbehavior in trying to push forward his grand plan for building a huge athletic complex at Bryn Mawr Meadows, without Park Board approval, without informing the commissioner representing that district (Bryn Mawr is not in Fine's district)[1], without working within the master plan[2] developed by the city and the Bassett Creek Valley Redevelopment Oversight Committee, and generally deceiving and lying about his actions.
There is some question as to whether Jon Olson even has the authority to do this, and even if he does, it is insulting to the rest of the commissioners and the public as there was a long discussion last year about setting the meeting schedule for the year, and such a schedule was issued in February, 2004.
There were several issues of importance which were to be discussed at the August 11, the Bryn Mawr Meadows fiasco being just one of them.
Bob Fine should be censured by removal from office via whichever legal means is appropriate. His arrogant, dishonest and back-room tactics and nepotism have no place in our public parks.
Jon Olson should be censured for conspiring and assisting Fine in covering up his misdeeds.
An interesting question: Who paid for the development of the plans for this site? Did Bob Fine pay out of his own pocket? Or did some favored contractor or friend help pay for it? Or did Fine illegally use Park Board funds to pay for it?
