R.T. must be talking about the fire response, which frequently beats our understaffed police to the scene. Laura, I know your job is public relations but please tell us citizens that pay your salary the rest of the story- R.T.'s budget calls for eliminating 43 officers positions once they retire! And why must a citizen dig through the full text of the budget to find this truth?
Rybak's budget avoids Public Safety layoffs by employing a combination of budget savings and new revenue and a focused retirement incentive to encourage officers eligible to retire to do so.
So R.T. wants to pay more cops to retire so we'll be even more understaffed? Elsewhere in the budget R.T. says we'll maintain current public works services like snow removal and such. R.T., we knew you couldn't deliver on 24 hour plowing and we can tolerate slower snow removal and such, but with the gangbangers taking over the Northside now and probably the rest of the city later we need to get our police department back up to full strength ASAP.
But given that R.T.'s already made up his mind it's probably time to buy that RV or the house in Starbuck.
