Keith is correct, the excuse that the jails are too full has always been a myth. Dyna should look more towards the Hennepin County judges. They are up for election, so everyone make sure to vote. Call a couple of prosecutors and ask their opinion of those running, and remember if you do not personally know anything about someone running for office then either find out or always vote against the incumbent. If the incumbent hasn't done anything the recommend them all things being equal always vote against them. The unknown new person may not be better, but can hardly be worse.
At a "Drug&Crime Task Force" meeting a few years ago Sheriff Pat McGowan said that the police and judges should stop using the jail as an excuse for not taking criminals off the street. That he would take all the criminals they could give him, even if he had to stack them three deep or rent space across Minnesota to put them in. I think Pat probably still has that same attitude. Even though not a Democrat I still find the Sheriff someone who cares more for getting things accomplished than empty rhetoric, I only wish more of our elected politicians had his action orientated style of addressing problems. The Sheriff, the previous Commissioner of Public Safety Don Davis, and former U.S. Attorney David Lillehaug share that distinction. All are people that give more than rhetoric they give action to the term public servant. The whitened bones of their victims litter the highways and byways of mankind's history. Stopped only by the few willing to pay the ultimate price and make a stand." - Toe REMINDERS: 1.
