I forwarded Dyna's conclusions to her County Commissioner, Mark

full capacity whether it is full or not."

It is no surprise that a Republican like Commissioner Stenglein cannot tell the difference between a jail and workhouse. Heck, he's just following the example of the current republican state administration that seems to think that nursing homes are the proper places to house sex offenders. suffice to say, empty beds at the workhouse do not readily equate into jail space for the thugs MPD drags in off the streets.

So for the benefit of the Republicans and the odd Green, the jail is largely for holding suspects awaiting conclusion of the trail process or bail. The workhouse, officially known as the the Hennipen County Adult Correction Facility, is where convicted offenders serve out short to medium length sentences. And nursing homes or other facilities for vulnerable adults should NEVER be uses as a substitute for jails or locked wards.

None the less thanks to Commissioner Stenglein for fessing up to the 70+ empty beds at the workhouse, we'll add them to the 200 odd empty beds at the jail that the county's holdin' out on us..
