Not to mention that their property values are very
likely to go up because of the proximity of the LRT,
which means they can buy a "nicer" house not close
to the LRT line in front of which they can park
their car, which they can then drive back and
forth to work. :-)

I don't think that many people understand that
the more functional the LRT system is, the more
the neighborhood geographies and demographics which
assimilate to it.  This is what happened with BART, 
whole communities developed around it.
