I have read many research reports from local, county state government and private foundations, nobody focuses on the findings/reports that impact low-income and communities of color like the Urban Coaliton does. We all now have less information available to us.
Signs point to end of line for Urban Coalition Curt Brown, Star Tribune August 19, 2004 For 37 years, the Urban Coalition has been a voice for the have-nots, compiling research to advocate policy changes aimed at helping poor people, minority members and immigrants. The organization, which sprang out of the race riots in Minneapolis in 1967, has always included the mayors from Minneapolis and St. Paul, and the original board included such influential names as Dayton and Pillsbury. But several people close to the organization say the Urban Coalition is folding. If you visit the St. Paul's nonprofit group's University Avenue offices these days, the lights are out, the door is locked and two large water-cooler jugs have been sitting in the hall for two weeks. In April, the organization laid off three of its four employees. An ex-director said a consultant has been hired to close the books by yearend. Dolores Fridge, a member of the board and vice chancellor of Minnesota State College and Universities, said Wednesday that nothing has changed since April, when leaders vowed to refocus after layoffs. http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4935770.html Shawn Lewis, Field Neigbhorhood -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm REMINDERS: 1.
