The point that I would make is the rerouting of existing bus lines
and the loss of time that those who were taking taking a bus, like Dorie,
endure. There was bus service on 38th. There are at least six routes
being rerouted. Tell me the last time that six bus routes were rerouted
the way these have (will be once the rest of the line opens) because a
new bus route was started.

Dorie loses at least an hour a day. Some people will choose to start
driving rather than lose that much time. It happens in other cities
when lrt starts. Salt Lake City lrt ridership took a couple of years
to get up to the level that the bus routes along the corridor had
prior to the opening.

It's good that Dorie can save time on other trips, but she could have
chosen to use the 38th street bus route to get there.

As far as the dome riders justifying building lrt, that's rather like the
issue of public funding for new sports arenas. That use has no effect
on rush hour traffic, which is the thing most people complain about and
the major reason that people supported it. Remember the official prediction
of a 0.1% reduction in vehicle trips due to lrt.
