Hello List, I can say that I do feel and see a heavier presence of police, besides the mobile, and I hear the helicopter every day, in and around my neighborhood. As far as an empty police car, I have not "ever" seen one, unless they were at an address responding to a call.
On my block, it's not only me, because there is no "I" in team. I must say that the neighbors are "very" committed in keeping the neighborhood safe. I think this is the strongest I have ever seen the people on my block so committed and working together for a common good. Yes, there will be some movement of these folks, and where they move I don't know, however, I do care. I wouldn't want another person to sit and live in fear, or watch their child pick up weight because they cannot go outdoors to play and get fresh air. I feel your frustration and your pain, this is why the Youth Development post that the Mayor addressed in his budget address is going to be key to some sort of stability with the youth. Addressing youth crime, and youth programming will restore some positives out there for young people. So they don't become latch-key for criminal elements. However, what troubles me most are the kids that are living with their parents that are involved in drug or gang activities. Let me explain, or my block where the trouble folks were ask to move, they have a young boy, whom me and my family has been feeding, and allowing him to wash his clothes for school, because his mother, who was renting the place, was cracked out and allowed the dealers to come in and sell, giving her a free high, not wanting to buy food. He is very sad, angry and so troubled he does not know where to go, and is tired of his mother and her boyfriend doing this where ever they move. But he is torn because this person who is addicted who just happens to be his mother, and he loves her very much. He's often said, why didn't child protection come in and remove them from their mother, then that way it would have been much easier for him to leave. I think, like you, I feel that yes, it's hard because people do move around. But they do so because they follow the drugs and the money. It is so important to address the whole issue that one is dealing with, giving them the tools they need to be kept strong. Personally, this is why I am hopeful in a "Dream Task" force. That's just my opinion. Our only security is our ability to change. - John Lilly Peace-Peace, Vanessa L. Freeman Hawthorne REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
