This evening I had the pleasure of attending the pre-opening eve, Welcoming
Party at West Broadway's magnificent new Cub Grocery Store. There were culinary
delights, ice cold beverages, our political leaders and a full house of
ecstatic Mpls. residents.

And we have great reason to be so happy. Target Corp. bailed on their lemon;
Cub made lemonade. And Cub lemonade is very, very sweet, baby.

All praise at this festive evening was giddily directed at "Jerry"; the kind,
gentle, and wizened father figure of Jerry's Foods. A huge value grocery
purveying empire headed by this self deprecating 80 plus year old gentleman and
directed by his son in law, Rob. Everybody was willing, and able, to approach
and chat with Jerry; and his lovely, petite wife. She was accepting and smiled
when I eagerly introduced her to some other folks as "Mrs. Jerry". I so enjoyed
these two older people, their son in law and the minions of family and long
loyal managers and employees who were their to show all of us on the Northside
of Mpls. what a wonderful, glorious Cub they had built for us. Jerry was proud
to inform us that he worked his way through college at "Dotts"(SP) Butcher
Shop at 7th and Plymouth; where he got his start in the grocery biz.

And this Cub is an all new pleasure dome for those who love wide well stocked
aisles of fresh foods and low prices. This is Jerry's lucky 50th store
opening and it may be the most beautiful store in the empire. Jerry assured me and
my eyes confirmed; no corners were cut (far from!!) and the store is marvelous.

Jerry's new Cub has created over 250 jobs; and he worked hard with local
agencies to hire from our Northside neighborhoods. We will all save a buck on West
Broadway as we buy our groceries at our New Cub. We will likely spend that
buck along the rest of our West Broadway; and that will give the Avenue added
vitality.

West Broadway is an important destination now for budget/variety conscious
shoppers.

So... I'll see you at the new Cub on "West Broadway, the Avenue with the Most
Potential."
