I was invited to the welcoming party for the new Cub store on West Broadway. It was such a nice experience for everyone. Elected Officials present were:
Mayor R.T.Rybak Council Members Natalie Johnnson Lee & Don Samuels State Representatives Keith Ellison, Joe Mullery State Senator Linda Higgins Hennepin County Commissioner Mark Stenglein Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar State Attorney General Mike Hatch The organizers did an excellent job for this event. Again, there are people who truly want to see economic development in the Northside of Minneapolis happen. This is one example of it. Thank you "Club Foods" Note: Older stories on Target/Club location: For most Twin Cities residents, it's not difficult to find a large grocery store, like Cub or Rainbow, close to home. However, people who live in north Minneapolis have to drive outside the city to find a big box grocery store. But the neighborhood is getting a Cub Foods store and residents hope this is a sign of better economic times ahead. Minneapolis, Minn. In a middle school auditorium in north Minneapolis, Cub Foods executives talk about the new store coming to the neighborhood. They show slides with drawings of what the 80,000 sq. ft. building will look like when the project is complete. The building used to be a Target store. It will be larger than most Cub grocery stores. http://news.minnesota.publicradio.org/features/2004/01/10_williamsb_broadway http://www.supervalu.com Cub Food closes deal for former Target store Cub Foods and Target Corp. have closed on the sale of a former Target store in North Minneapolis. Terms of the agreement, originally announced on June 19, were not disclosed. Cub Foods, a division of Supervalu Inc. in Eden Prairie, plans to operate the store at 701 West Broadway together with its Edina-based franchisee Jerry's Foods. Work on the 79,600-square-feet store is expected to be completed in the summer of 2004. Jerry's Foods is part of Jerry's Enterprises Inc. of Edina, which was founded in 1947. It is the largest Cub Foods franchise in the country and runs 14 retail supermarkets in the Twin Cities area, seven in Wisconsin and four in Florida, according to The Business Journal's 2003 Fact Book. The company has annual revenue of $645 million, the Fact Book noted. Cub recently announced plans to open new stores in Shorewood, Savage, Arden Hills, Lakeville, Saint Paul and Brooklyn Park by early 2005. 2003 American City Business Journals Inc.
