A BALL LIKE NO OTHER

Saturday, September 18, 2004 - 7:30 pm until late
Historic Grain Belt Brewery Bottling House,
 79 - Thirteenth Ave. N.E., Minneapolis

Along with a host of other partners, the PEACE Ball
is brought to you by co-hosts:
Council Member Don Samuels & Sondra Hollinger Samuels,
Mayor R.T. Rybak & Megan O'Hara,
Police Chief William McManus and Lourdes McManus

THE CHALLENGE

At first glance, the problem seems too large, too intractable.
Minneapolis is home to some of the greatest racial disparities
in the country.

*African Americans are imprisoned at 20 times the rate of Caucasians
*In 2000, 44% of all African American Hennepin County men had been arrested and booked
*One out of every 9 Jordan Neighborhood residents is currently under court supervision

But there is reason to be hopeful. The PEACE Foundation
is not relying on traditional models and resources to
create change. Instead of adopting a charity-based or
social service model, the foundation is launching a
grassroots movement capable of harnessing the power
of individuals, employers, congregations, institutions,
and organizations
