Dear Friend: On Friday evening, Cassandra Current, her mother Renee Brown and step grandfather Wayne Houtari, all members of one family, were slain by Cassandra's ex-boyfriend Bryant Jones in North Minneapolis Hawthorne neighborhood. Tomorrow, Monday September 13, I will hold vigil/fast at 2614 Dupont (at 26th Avenue N) from 10AM-7PM to honor the lives lost. This was an unusually brutal occurrence in that it was a bloody stabbing of three people from the same family by a fearsome and historically violent man. Your presence will help shine a spotlight on the reality and tragic potential of domestic violence. You will remind family, friends and neighbors that the larger community cares and mourns their violation. Together we can help rehabilitate the spot as the venue of an unprecedented outpouring of good will solidarity, mutuality and hope. Please come by, stay a few minutes or a few hours, sign the book of sentiments for this broken family. Come think a few thoughts or say a silent prayer for all victims trapped in violent relationships and all perpetrators held hostage by their own rage.
