Crime is up, and the city continues the reduction in police force; yeah, that's the
ticket! Faith Zuckweiler

Dyna Sluyter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:The backgrounder article in today's Strib well
chronicles the perp who
murdered 3 Northside citizens last weekend. Like many of the latest
murders in this once fair city, this heinious act took the lives of 3
innocent members of a family that had anchored their now troubled
Hawthorne neighborhood for over 40 years. The story chronicles this
perps whole sordid violent criminal history, but most telling is the
last years.

This perp was convicted of a violent burglary last October, but
despite having a history of violent crime and having failed drug
treatment the judge gave him a one year sentence rather than the
standard 4 years requested by our county attorney. Take note here, as
to who's really "soft on crime"- that county attorney is a Democrat,
The judge who gave this light sentence was appointed by an independence
party governor. In fact, the many folks that are quite justifiably
upset about the short sentences given felons in Minneapols might want
to note that a DFL governor hasn't appointed a judge since 1991, and
most of the judges appointed to the Hennipen county bench are
Republican or Independence party governor's appointees.

Having been given said light sentence, as is customary to felons
sentenced to a year or less, our perp was last october remanded to the
custody of our Republican Hennipen county sheriff. Now remember our
Republican county commisioner, Mr. Stanglein, who in fact badly
represents the very district where these multiple murders were
committed? Was it not this Republican county commissioner that said
there were a couple hundred beds available at our county workhouse? And
was not this the sheriff that said he could handle more prisoners? Well
that Republican sheriff who runs that workhouse under the direction of
a Republican controlled county board turned loose this perp that
murdered 3 of my neighbors after serving but half of a too short one
year term for a repeat violent felony.

Now folks may by now have noted a trend here- the Republicans are now
the party that is "soft on crime", to use their terminology of a couple
decades back.Heck, if the Democrats were as tasteless as the
Republicans they could even do plenty of "Willy Horton" style attack
ads. The trend continues all the way to the presidency- while unelected
president Bush has wasted our tax dollars on pork barrel purchases of
expensive toys- radios too high tech to work properly, armored cars,
etc., Clinton gave us "Clinton Cops" and John Kerry in similar manner
promises to put more law enforcement feet on the street.

So if you want to put the perps in prison and make our streets safe
again, vote DFL!

hanging on in Hawthorne,

Dyna Sluyter
