There is nothing unusual about DFLers doing literature drops or door
knocking in districts other than their own; what was unusual in Phyllis Kahn's
case was picking literature up. I've not seen much nor asked about the reasons
or motivation for Kahn's actions, but I suspect, aside from absent mindedness,
it was curiosity and a desire to further disseminate the literature; had
there been extras on a doorstep here or there, it would have been a stretch to
call it a crime. It was a crime, however, and I am disappointed in my state
representative. I'm of the opinion that all literature drops are littering anyway,
we should all be fined or locked up for it; the fact that we are not is the
astounding thing to me, not that someone would care to pick the trash up. You
can defecate on my front porch and call it free speech, but that doesn't make it
so; still, one person's fecal matter is anothers reading material. It all has
to be cleaned up, eventually.
Since there is no opposing candidate superior to the incumbent in my
opinion, I will mark this episode along with all those others in her record and
vote accordingly. Come November 2, we will see what the rest of the folks in
our precinct think. In any case, I'm tired of reading commentary on the episode
over and over again on this list.
