Stephen Baker is most likely in the tradition of far-right Republicans. On
February 26, 2004, he testified before the House Committee on Judiciary
Policy and Finance IN FAVOR of the death penalty. Baker was the only
practicing attorney to advocate for the death penalty at the House or Senate
Committee hearings. He revealed in his testimony that as a prosecutor in
Florida, he handled appeals of death penalty cases on behalf of the state
(i.e. trying to ensure that people were executed). Baker's testimony struck
me as kind of strange. For example, he argued that the proposed Minnesota
death penalty bill was very fair because it had a provision preventing the
execution of pregnant women until they gave birth.

Anyone with patience can listen to the testimony at
http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/audio/archivescomm.asp?comm=18&ls_year=83
It will take at least an hour to get to Baker.

Baker has a much more desirable opponent in Susan Burke.

A more detailed on this election post to follow sometime before election.
