"What would you do with 10 minutes not wasted waiting at Hiawatha?"

If you make two trips a day across Hiawatha, that's 20 minutes, the same
as the much touted 41 hours a year average delay caused by congestion
bandied about by the Strib in justifying rail transit.

What would those commuters do with 20 minutes a day?

If you live in the neighborhood, it's quite possible that you will
make more than two trips a day, losing far more time.

On a different note, Liz says that she has seen the gates coming down
during a green light (more than once?). Please note the time of these
situations and send them to Metro Transit. This situation is very
dangerous, shows an improperly operating system, leaves MT open to
lawsuits in car-train crashes (which will cost taxpayers money.) If this
happens, it will cause cars to become stranded across the southbound lane
of Hiawatha, blocking traffic even more.

Dan Prozinski says we would need to solve this traffic problem before trying
to build lrt on University. The news is that a large number of places where
you can currently cross the center of University, whether driving straight
across or making a left turn, will be closed under the Ramsey county plan
shown in their EIS. To make these movements across the centerline, you
will have to make a right turn and drive to the next open intersection
and make a U-turn.

Here are the most notable projections of p.m. rush-hour traffic backups,
no bprojection was printed about a.m. traffic, but it would most likely be
similar, but in the opposite directions.

1) University eastbound at Rice (1094'), overlapping with the backup at
Marion (3921'), overlapping with the backup at Macubin (1690'), overlapping
with the backup at Dale (3049'), leaving 3 1/2 blocks with no backup before

2) University eastbound at Lexington (2845'), overlapping with the backup at
Griggs (2575'), overlapping with the backup at Hamline (1728'), overlapping
with the backup at Albert (1247'), leaving 1 1/2 blocks with no backup before

3) University eastbound at Snelling (3670'), overlapping with the backup at
Fry (3176'), overlapping with the backup at Aldine (2600'), ending 1/2
block east of Prior.

That's about 5 1/2 blocks with no backup between Rice and Prior.
