I agree. More enforcement would be nice. There may be some enforcement of this already. I suspect with the beefed up traffic unit that more bike related tickets are being given out. I know one of our council members can confirm that at least one ticket for running a red light has been given to a cyclist in MPLS this year. =)
My size may help in these situations but I have no problem with getting folks going the wrong way in the bike lane to move. I don't give any indication that I'm going to move and don't slow down. As I pass by them I usually toss in a neighborly "wrong side, jack-999". It might seem rude but no worse than someone who's too lazy to be bothered in riding a block over to grab a bike lane in the right direction. Instead of bothering with bike lanes on busy streets, why not turn some streets into a place for bikes and buses? The city has built hundreds if not thousands of streets for cars. Surely they can bothered to build a few "streets" for those of use who like to get around the city other ways. I'm tired of having bikers disregard the directions. It gives me a choice between insisting on my right-of-way as someone biking in the proper direction and risking a collision, or swerving into a traffic lane to avoid someone who apparently can't read the directional arrows.
