Does anyone know why Ms. Johnson Lee was not present for this vote, which is extremely important to the future of our City's culture? Aren't these theatres in her Ward, and wouldn't her recommendation - or even vote of confidence - be seen as just a tad important in deciding this issue?
Perhaps she has a valid reason for not being present, but in light of her recent remarks - or lack, thereof - of the re-opening and future of First Ave., it's beginning to appear that she has little, if any, interest in culture or entertainment - the two things that keep Minneapolis (specifically, HER Ward) open, operating, generating revenue, taxes, and employing thousands of citizens, after 5:30PM and on weekends.
Does anyone remember downtown weekends or nights, pre-Warehouse district revitalization? I was young, but I certainly do. Not much to remember, there. I believe it's in our best interest to pay A LOT of attention to the cultural aspects of our city.
On a more personal note - I have worked in various capacities in the theatre and entertainment industry for the past 20+ years. While I consider this an avocation - it has never been my sole source of income and thus, I consider this to be a fairly impartial and unbiased statement - it has made me aware of the inner workings of this industry, and the consequences of mismanagement (well, not on THIS side of the River). Fred Krohn and Tom Hoch have done an INCREDIBLE job of restoring, managing, and booking these theatres since about 1978. It would be a shame to see anyone else come in and take over this operation, regardless of whether ClearChannel is involved with HTG or not.
My vote goes to HTG, since Johnson Lee's didn't.
