I agree with this sentiment of Clear Channel. For the
past few years, I have not been willing to spend a
dime on anything if I was aware their name was
attached to it.
I've even found that advertisements on Clear Channel
billboards give me an automatically negative reaction
to whatever is being advertised. Illogical, perhaps,
but there it is.
It isn't to say that they won't do a good job on this,
and it isn't to say that I might not overcome my
distaste of that company to go to see a show. However,
I find it hard to believe that anyone who is
progressive minded and relatively aware of Clear
Channel's track record would not have a negative
association towards anything they are involved in.
I'm just one person, and my take on this is only a
very small one as I tend to go to less expensive
theater venues. I do like the "big" theaters - my
preference is mainly due to financial constraints and
having more contacts who can get me tix.
(Note: I do find the concept of an Ordway "monopoly"
to be somewhat concerning in light of the statements
made about competition forcing the theaters to run
"schlock" shows. Their schlock might be my favorite
show and vice versa.)
